Fun and Healthy Fitness Dates
Going to the gym alone sounds so boring lately. Sometimes doing activities with someone else may be just what you need to get out of a funk and enjoy fitness again. Not only that, but all those drink-filled nights out or dinner dates could be killing your waistline. How about some ideas for fun activities to do with a friend, partner or a date?
I hear so many women tell me that they love to work out, but their partners don’t, or they are bored hanging out with friends at the same bars or coffee shops night after night! I’m going to share a few fun ideas you can do with a partner, a group or as a fun date – they may end up being some favorite regular activities for you! Remember, exercise increases endorphins, the feel good hormones.
Indoor Rock Climbing: This activity is so fun! Almost every city has a small indoor rock climbing gym. The cost is usually around $10-15 for a day pass, which includes shoe rental and a harness. You can get a quick belay lesson and off you go! It’s fun to encourage each other and get over fears; plus, you’ll most likely get a good sweat in!
Stand-Up Paddle Boarding (SUP) or Kayaking: This new craze has been sweeping the nation and it doesn’t require a lot of skill, just a lake or ocean nearby. You will often find deals on Groupon or Living Social, but it should still only cost around $20-30 for a 2-4 hour rental. This is a great core activity and allows time to chat and enjoy the views and each other’s company – all while working out your shoulders, arms and abs!
Crossfit: By now, you have probably heard of Crossfit. There are Crossfit Games hosted each year, in which elite athletes compete. Although Crossfit can be intense, it’s a great workout for anyone! Check out your local areas for discounts or beginner classes to get started. You may need to sign up for a month, but if you want a crazy endorphin rush and the chance to cheer on your partner and get closer as a team, this is it!
Tennis: Many parks and apartment complexes have tennis courts available to the public; so all you need is two rackets, a handful of balls and you’re ready to play. The great thing about playing tennis with a partner is that YOU DON’T NEED TO KNOW HOW TO PLAY TENNIS!! Just head out to the courts and see how many times you can hit the ball back and forth. Make up your own games. This is a fun way for you to get creative and make it fun. You will be laughing and breathless in no time!
Indoor Trampoline Parks: What brings you back to childhood more than jumping on a trampoline? Nothing I can think of! These fun indoor parks are popping up all over the country and you can spend a few hours just bouncing all over the place. Try a few seat drops and if you’re daring, maybe even a flip. A trampoline outing is a sure way to get some laughs and break a sweat. I recommend eating AFTER. 🙂
Laser Tag: Who would have thought laser tag would be a workout? I’m here to tell you, it is! They say not to run, but your adrenaline is pumping, your heart races and you move very fast in the dark. Laser tag is a fun way to have a little competition and become a kid again at the same time.
Hiking: If you are lucky enough to have some trails or mountains in your area: GET OUTSIDE. Sunshine increases your happiness! The outdoors, a little heart pounding and nature is a great way to bond with friends or a date, and helps sculpt those quads, butt and calves too!
Cooking Class: This isn’t a physical activity, but it sure can be fun. Many places offer Raw Food classes or healthy meal preparation spots, where you put your meals together for the week and take them home to freeze. Trying something new together may start get the brain rolling on how you can incorporate more ways to become healthy together. Remember, the healthier you keep yourself, the more time you are around to enjoy each other’s company.
